5 Tips for Staying Warm While Winter Camping

Winter camping is a great way to enjoy the beauty and solitude of the winter season, but it can also be a challenge to stay warm and comfortable in colder temperatures.

Here are five tips for staying warm while winter camping, along with some recommendations for products that can help keep you warm and cozy!

Dress in layers

One of the most important things you can do to stay warm while winter camping is to dress in layers. This allows you to adjust your clothing to the changing temperature and activity level.

Start with a base layer of moisture-wicking material, such as merino wool or synthetic fabric, to help keep your skin dry.

Add a middle layer of insulation, such as fleece or down, to trap heat and keep you warm.

Finally, top it off with an outer layer that is wind and water-resistant to protect against the elements.

ORORO has a variety of water-resistant jackets that you can use as an outer layer. As a bonus, you may be able to eliminate the bulky mid-layer as ORORO apparel is all heated!

Use a sleeping pad and insulated sleeping bag

A good night's sleep is essential for staying warm and well-rested while winter camping. Make sure you have a sleeping pad with a high R-value to insulate you from the cold ground, and an insulated sleeping bag that is rated for the temperatures you will be camping in.

If you’re sleeping in a camper or just want to stay warmer around the fire, the ORORO Heated Seat Cushion can also be a great addition to your winter camping setup. It provides heat to the back of your thighs to help keep you warm and comfortable when you are sitting outdoors around the campfire or watching a chilly sporting event.

Stay hydrated

It's easy to get dehydrated while winter camping, especially if you are sweating from physical activity or dressed in layers. Make sure to bring plenty of water and drink it regularly to stay hydrated. Hot drinks, such as tea or cocoa, can also help to warm you up from the inside.

Eat high-calorie, high-fat foods

Your body burns more calories to stay warm in the cold, so it's important to eat plenty of high-calorie, high-fat foods while winter camping. Pack foods like nuts, cheese, and jerky, and consider bringing a portable stove or a TURBRO Portable Outdoor Fire Pit to cook hot meals and keep you warm.

Another benefit of the TURBRO Portable Outdoor Fire Pit is the ability to provide you with a warm, roaring fire in as little as three minutes. When every second counts, you want to be warm as soon as possible when you are camping in the winter.

Stay active

One of the best ways to stay warm while winter camping is to stay active. Go for a hike or a snowshoeing adventure during the day, and do some stretching or yoga before bed to keep your muscles warm. If you're in a snowy location, consider building a snow shelter or igloo, which can provide insulation and help you stay warm.

Summary

Staying warm while winter camping requires a combination of proper clothing, a good sleep setup, hydration, high-calorie/fat foods, and staying active.

The ORORO Heated Seat Cushion and TURBRO Portable Outdoor Fire Pit are great tools to help you achieve this. With these tips in mind, you'll be ready to enjoy a comfortable and memorable winter camping trip with family and friends.
